The school is encouraging pupils, parents, staff and Old Bedalians to enter one of the world’s leading running events – the Great South Run – which takes place in Portsmouth on 21 and 22 October 2017 (first weekend of half term). We hope to attract runners from all members of the school community – Dunannie, Dunhurst and Bedales, past and present. You don’t have to be a budding Olympian to enter – all abilities are encouraged from age 3 upwards. We will be raising funds jointly for two charities: the John Badley Foundation (JBF) which enables children whose families do not have the means to attend an independent school to benefit from a Dunhurst and Bedales education, and a second charity to be agreed by the runners. Runners will include Keith and Moony Budge, Greg Clark, Paul Turner, Dunhurst head elect Colin Baty and OB Albie Waterton. Please enter early to secure your entry via the Great South Run website, and let me know that you have entered (email: email@example.com).
All you need to do to join in is decide which distance to run then enter yourself (or your child) via the appropriate Great Run web link here: junior events for 3 – 8 years (1.5 km; cost £14), and 9 – 15 years (2.5 km; cost £15); and a choice of 5 km (from age 14; cost £20) or 10 miles (from age 16; cost £41). The entry fee is payable directly to Great Run on booking. The main 10 mile race takes place on the Sunday, with all the other events the day before on the Saturday. You will need to provide your own transport to and from Portsmouth, and parents will have the option to accompany their children in the mini event. Once we have chosen our second charity, we will organise a fundraising web page for runners to gain sponsorship, and also team t shirts. Please let me know if you would like to join in or have any questions (email: firstname.lastname@example.org). To keep track of your training and see how others are doing towards the goal of running the Great South Run join the Bedales Strava group. You’ll be able to see how your weekly efforts compare against Bedales School staff, students and parents. Let the training begin!
